Backhoes For Different Jobs And Consumers

Backhoes For Different Jobs And Consumers

by

Daniel Millions

Backhoes come in a variety of sizes that are suitable for the garden, construction or industrial site. Backhoes are just one type of the accessories that consumers can buy for their tractor. A bucket on a mechanical arm with an elbow is one easy way of describing the backhoe.

To begin with, tractors are powerful machines that can be adapted to different jobs. With a backhoe accessory in place, the tractor may be used to operate the bucket with a straight armed position or while the mechanical arm is bent. When a backhoe arm is straight and the bucket is swung back and forth, the motion and weight can be used for demolition purposes. While using the mechanical arm in different bent positions, a backhoe bucket can operated to drop its contents, scoop up material and dig a hole. A backhoe can be used for household, business and agricultural purposes. Consumers can use the small backhoe equipped tractor for gardening, landscaping and building purposes. It is possible to dig small trees and roots with the household tractor. Backhoes are available for tractors in a variety of sizes. Backhoes are used for construction, engineering and industrial purposes. Mining, brush cutting, heaving lifting and placement of equipment can be achieved with a backhoe. Dragging the bucket along the ground will grade surfaces. The excavator portion or bucket of the backhoe will come in different sizes. Variations in the bucket will be related to depth, blade, teeth and width. Backhoes will have different safety measures that will provide protection during operation and movement of the equipment. Before digging, carefully consider the placement of the hole. Contact any utility authorities who may have underground equipment in your digging area. If you break any such equipment, you will be responsible for repair or replacement parts. When making your inquiries, ask companies that provide services such as water, sewage treatment or fuel. Any underground cable or pipes could be affected by digging. Assess the ground area near the digging site for an uneven ground cover, holes or obstructions that could affect the motion of the tractor backhoe attachment. Once a backhoe and tractor are in motion, the clearance of the front and back end are important considerations for the work site. When you know the location of all underground utility or service equipment, mark the location with red flags or cones that will be visible from the driving position of the tractor. While digging, save energy by digging in one spot until the desired depth is reached. Moving the bucket before it has reached will cause unnecessary moving of the bucket back to the same area later. Digging, breaking down, smoothing out and moving heavy equipment are tasks that are performed at home in the garden or on a larger scale in the construction world. The digging power of backhoes makes this equipment a necessary tool for many tasks that would otherwise require much labor and time. The backhoe’s many abilities are attractive to different consumer groups, which makes the backhoe a popular choice of tractor accessory.

Record number of bicycles sold in Australia in 2006

Thursday, January 4, 2007

Bicycle sales in Australia have recorded record sales of 1,273,781 units for 2006, exceeding car sales by 32 percent. It is the fifth year in a row that the bicycle industry has sold more than one million units, a figure yet to be realised by car manufacturers.

The Cycling Promotion Fund (CPF) spokesman Ian Christie said Australians were increasingly using bicycles as an alternative to cars. Sales rose nine percent in 2006 while the car market stalled. Mr Christie said people were looking to cut their fuel costs and improve their fitness.

Mr Christie said organisations were beginning to supply bicycles as a company vehicle. “There is an emerging trend towards people using bikes as their official company-supplied vehicle in place of the traditional company car,” he said.

“Some of Australia’s biggest corporations now have bicycle fleets, and when you add in government organisations, we now know of at least 50 organisations which operate fleets of bikes.”

“Although the company bicycle is a long way from taking over from the company car, it’s an important trend when you consider that nearly half of all cars sold are to company fleets.”

The CPF claims most commutes to work are less than 5 kilometres (3 miles) making bicycle travel a viable alternative.

Space station crew perform successful spacewalk

Monday, March 28, 2005

Commander Leroy Chiao (U.S.A.) and Flight Engineer Salizhan Sharipov (Russia), suited in Russian Orlan spacesuits, left the International Space Station on a 4.5 hour long spacewalk to install antennas for the European Automated Transfer Vehicle (ATV), inspect and photograph other exterior equipment and launched the Nanosatellite mini-satellite. This is the last scheduled walk for the Expedition 10 crew.

At 06:25 UTC, the two astronauts left the station from the Pirs DC1 docking compartment/airlock and proceeded to install the last three of six space-to-space communication antennas for the ATV’s rendezvous and docking with the ISS next year.

Sharipov next deployed the foot long, 11 pound Russian Nanosatellite, tossing it into space by hand. The object of the experiment is to develop small satellite control techniques, monitor satellite operations and develop new attitude system sensors. Russian ground crews reported good signal reception from the satellite two hours after its release.

The two astronauts next proceeded to the aft end of the Zvezda service module. A Global Positioning System (GPS) antenna and necessary cabling for the ATV was installed and the men worked their way back to the airlock.

The station maintained its attitude, despite the loss of a gyroscope earlier in the space station mission, until the end of the spacewalk. Chiao and Sharipov reported being a safe distance from the attitude adjustment thrusters. Russian ground control activated the jets and normal attitude ofthe station was regained.

They returned to the airlock at 1055 UTC, completing the mission an hour earlier than scheduled.

Chiao and Sharipov arrived on the station October 16, 2004. They are scheduled to return to Earth on April 25, 2005. This marks Sharipov’s second walk in space and Chiao’s sixth.

Militants kill at least 21 Algerian police in ambush

Thursday, June 18, 2009

Local media stated on Thursday that at least 21 Algerian paramilitary police had been killed after an ambush on their convoy.

The convoy was en route to their barracks at Bordj Bou Arreridj, following an escort of Chinese construction workers to a nearby worksite, located southeast of Algeria’s capital of Algiers, when it was attacked late Wednesday.

Militants detonated no less than two roadside bombs to block the convoy, consisting of six vehicles. They then opened fire on the police before stealing their uniforms, weapons, and vehicles. The militants, as part of Al-Qaeda’s network, are referred to as al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, (AQIM).

Newspaper reports indicated that 21 people had died, while a local official said 23 were killed and a further five had been hospitalized.

A large security operation has started in the area; however, the attack was not immediately confirmed by Algerian authorities.

The militants have been left over from a civil war begun in 1992 between the government and radical Islamists that has killed between 150,000 and 200,000 people. Violence has since diminished, but attacks on government forces still occur.

A380 collides with regional jet at JFK airport

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

On Monday, an Air France Airbus A380, operating as Air France Flight 007, collided with a Comair Bombardier CRJ-700, operating as Comair flight 553/Delta Connection flight 6293 in Delta Connection livery, on a taxiway at John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City. The A380 had 520 people onboard, and the smaller plane had 66.

The Comair jet had just arrived from Boston Logan International Airport, and was stopped on the tarmac, awaiting a gate to offload passengers. The A380 was preparing to depart for Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, and was taxiing along a taxiway when its wingtip struck the tail of the other plane. The impact spun the CRJ around 90 degrees and resulted in some damage to both planes.

A passenger on board the A380 said that “It really felt just like a speedbump or like hitting a pothole—a jolt—but it didn’t feel right [it felt] like that shouldn’t be happening.”

LiveATC.net captured the recording of the flight deck and ground control communications before and after the incident. In the recording, one can hear controllers giving taxi instructions to the Air France plane, then later a controller calling for emergency personnel to the intersection of taxiways Alpha and Mike.

The National Transportation Safety Board plans to investigate the incident, and will study the flight recorders, air traffic control recordings, and data from radar on the ground.
